What APR means
Annual percentage rate (APR) is a yearly cost of borrowing expressed as a percentage. It is designed to help you compare credit products more clearly than looking at a monthly payment alone.
APR can include interest and certain fees that the lender must disclose under applicable law. It is not the same as a flat interest rate in every case, and two offers with similar monthly payments can still differ in total cost. Always read the lender's full disclosures before you accept.
Amounts, terms, and APR ranges
Through participating lenders in the UTF network, offers generally fall within these ranges:
These ranges describe what may be available across the network. They are not a promise that every lender offers every combination, or that you will receive an offer at the low end of the APR range.
- Loan amounts: $350 up to $4,500
- Repayment terms: 3 to 60 months
- APR: 6% to 35%
Illustrative example
The following example is for education only. It is not an offer, quote, or guarantee of approval.
Representative example: a $1,000 loan at 24% APR repaid over 12 months may cost about $94.56 per month, with a total repayment of $1,134.72. Final APR, fees, repayment terms and payment due dates are determined by the lender.
Your actual payment, total cost, fees, and schedule will depend on the lender, the product, your profile, and the state where the offer is made. Always rely on the final numbers in the lender's agreement.
What UTF does not do
UTF:
When you accept an offer, your agreement is with that lender under its terms. Review those terms carefully before you sign.
- is not a lender, bank, or credit decision maker;
- does not originate, fund, or service loans;
- does not set APR, fees, repayment schedules, or underwriting rules;
- does not guarantee approval, funding, or a specific rate;
- does not replace the lender's Truth-in-Lending or other required disclosures.
Why offers differ
Actual offers vary by factors that may include:
Not every applicant qualifies. A request through UTF is not an application for credit and does not guarantee an offer.
- lender product and underwriting criteria;
- your income, credit profile, and application details;
- state law and product availability;
- requested amount and preferred term;
- fees the lender discloses (for example, origination fees where applicable).
Comparing responsibly
Before you accept, compare more than the monthly payment. Look at APR, term length, total repayment, and any fees. Borrow only what you need and can reasonably repay. Short-term or higher-cost credit may not suit long-term needs.
Checking options through UTF doesn't affect your credit score. If you proceed with a lender, that lender may conduct a hard credit inquiry and may request additional verification before approval and funding.
